Hello Davenport Community:

My name is Alain Douge and I am honored to be the principal at the newest high school in Polk County. In August 2021, Davenport High School will open its doors to its first group of students ever, serving grades 9-11! The booming student population of the area called for relief as local high schools were operating overcapacity. Our Polk residents responded with the support of the ½ cent sales tax initiative, and here we are counting down to the welcoming of 1500+ students for their first day!

I have been in the Polk County Public School system for 19 years and I have cherished every moment. I have served PCPS in different roles, most recently as principal of Lake Gibson Middle School for 4 ½ years and Lake Gibson High School prior to that. One thing that has always been consistent is my passion for connecting with our students, parents, and community. It’s been important over my career to have an open ear, empathy when necessary, and the ability to make hard decisions when they aren’t the most popular. Even when called on to dance for kids, kiss a pig, or get “pied” in the face at a pep-rally, “Mr. Douge is up for the challenge!”. Our mission will be: Every student supported. Every student challenged. Every student ready. At Davenport High School we are committed to teaching students the skills needed to achieve academic success.
Our campus will be home to an exciting mix of learning, arts, culture, and athletics within the walls and fields of the amazing state of the art facilities. Having personal experience as a former high school administrator, I am excited to put Davenport High School on a competitive path from day one. Although we are new, the standard to be academically great will continue during such a tough time and transition for most of us. Our academics, extra and co-curricular offerings will engage our students with the traditional high school experience that will have them ready for life beyond Davenport High. I am excited about every opportunity of coming to Davenport High School next year. There are many great things planned as the history of the school is just getting started. Many of you will have your names tied to the DHS history books and I am thrilled about that. I am looking forward to meeting you and working with you in this next chapter for our students
